Jaxton Daniel Plathe

I will never forget watching how Grandma Vi smiled at Jaxton the first time she saw him. Jaxton smiled right back at her. Grandma will go days sometimes without a word or a smile, but let someone pick up Jaxton's pictures and ask who  that cute baby is and Grandma will tell them and usually doesn't hesitate to call him by name. For those who don't know Grandma this in itself is a miracle, there are days she couldn't tell us her name, but this little boy gave her such joy in his too short life. We love you all. My one regret in Jaxton's short time with us is that I did not get to hold him more. It just haunts me. I think I held him once or twice. The other opportunities that I had was when I had nasty colds and I did not want to be the cause of him getting sick so I kept my distance. I figured I would get plenty of other opportuities and there was no shortage of people wanting to hold Baby Jaxton especially when the Grandma's and Grandpa's are around. You almost have to pry Jaxton from their grips. I will now hold you Jaxton in my dreams. I will never forget you.

I am speaking on behalf of our Dad Jerry Plathe Sr. who is still recovering from his stroke he suffered last July. I sincerely believe that Jaxton very possibly was the one person whom our Dad ‘Grandpa Plathe’ fought so hard for to stay alive in hopes of seeing him one day. Our Dad prior to his stroke eagerly awaited his birth, he had even made plans to fly back to Des Moines,IA in hopes of being one of the first to see and hold him when he was born. It was to be one of the highlights of his life. Now our Dad must come to terms with Jaxton’s shocking and unexpected passing as we all are trying to do. I must admit the hurt has been almost unbearable for us all. Our Dad has made great strides in his recovery, even adding some new words to his recovering vocabulary although in times like this no words are needed. Jeremy Smith, Jaxton’s uncle put it best in his beautiful eulogy; “when words fail, tears flow but through those tears there is an undeniable language.” That could have never been truer than in our Dad’s case.
